Ty Segall & White Fence - "Scissor People" (Hair) Drag City, 2012

We first got wind of the Ty Segall / White Fence collabo a few months back, and since then, we've done our best to imagine what the fuck it would sound like, both acts being serious PS favs. The answer is, well, basically exactly what we would have expected. And its awesome.

Hair comes out April 24th on Drag City, and it will clearly be one of the most talked about garage / psych records of 2012. Check out the excellent teaser track "Scissor People" below, along with a live vid from their "Room 205" session (with Mikal Cronin on bass!). You can also head over to Drag City now to preview / pre-order the record.

Ty Segall - "You Make The Sun Fry" & "I Can't Feel It" (Goodbye Bread) Drag City 2011

Its taken me a long time to post something about this record. If you follow the blog at all, or know me, you know that I dig Ty. "Lemons" and "Melted" are two records that I still enjoy, even though I've listened to them countless times over the past couple years. Perhaps it is for this reason that when I first heard Ty's latest release on Drag City "Goodbye Bread"...I was a bit disappointed. I've read lots of reviews about how Bread was meant to be a record where Ty could put aside all of the bells and whistles of his blown-out garage psych sound and just focus on simply writing good songs. To me, Bread sounded more like rough mixes of the album I would've liked to hear. Something about the pace, tempo, and production of the record just seemed...well, kinda weak. The songs were good, but nothing that would have drawn me in to immediate repeat listens (like his past records). I essentially gave up on the record...until recently. After giving it a little more time to grow on me, I've decided that I do like Bread after all. Its not what I had expected as a follow up to Melted, but then, how the hell do you follow up a record like Melted? Bread isn't about jaw dropping garage rock party anthems. If anything, it seems Ty is trying to tell us that he's grown up a bit. But is that a good thing? Well...let's see what his next record sounds like.

[news to us] Al Lover releases "Psychedelic Reinterpretations of Contemporary Rock n' Roll"

Just stumbled across this FREE bandcamp release by remix artist Al Lover. I don't know much about this dude, but just from browsing through his releases (including remixes of Captain Beefheart's 'Safe as Milk' Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, and various artists on Woodsist), I'd say he's on the level. This time Al has released an insane 10 track album called "Distorting Reverberations (of Reverberating Distoration): Psychedelic Remixes of Contemporary Rock n' Roll," featuring remixes of some of our favorite groups, a few of which have been featured here. Stand-out tracks include White Fence's "Sticky Fruitman Has Faith," Ty Segall's "Fist Heart Mighty Dawn Dart," King Tuff's "Sun Medallion," Natural Child's "White Man's Burden," and Jeff The Brotherhood's "Hey Friend." Those of you who aren't really into DJ music will probably groan through this one, but if you're willing to give it a chance, I think you'll find it pretty sweet. Preview it below, then head to bandcamp to download it and some of Al Lover's other remixes.

[download] Ty Segall's "Ty Rex" (Limited Time Only!)

As mentioned before, Ty Segall recently released a 12" EP of T-Rex covers aptly titled "Ty Rex." Unfortunately, physical copies of the release were limited, and as of now Goner records is no longer carrying the EP. Lucky for you, I've decided to host mp3s of "Ty Rex" on my box.net profile for a limited time only-So if you're interested in checking it out, click the link below. Enjoy!

Ty Segall - "Fist Heart Mighty Dawn Dart" (Ty Rex) Goner 2011 [T Rex cover EP for Record Store Day]

I caught wind last night of a new TY SEGALL 12" EP being released for Record Store Day (April 16th) on Goner Records. After frantically searching the Internet I came up with little more than a bogus "MP3s Leaked" site that wanted me to download some crazy bullshit. So you can imagine I was pleasantly surprised to discover that early this morning Pitchfork's Altered Zones and mega-blog Gorilla Vs. Bear co-premiered a track from the new EP. Ty Segall's "Ty Rex" is a 12" T-Rex covers EP featuring 6 of Ty's favorite Marc Bolan jams. Check out the track below, and make sure to pick it up on Record Store Day or grab a limited edition clear vinyl at one of Ty's upcoming shows.

[news to us] Ty Segall to release "Goodbye Bread" LP on DRAG CITY

Here at pRIMORDIAL sOUNDS, we're Ty Segall mega-fans. So we're pretty psyched to hear that Ty will be releasing a new LP entitled "Goodbye Bread" later this year on one of our fav's, Drag City. Ty was recently interviewed over at Altered Zones and had this to say about the new record:
"I recorded it with my buddy Eric [Bauer] in his basement... I tend to rush, and all my other records have been like, “Just get it done, go go go go go!” With this one, we were like, “We’re gonna take six months, and not finish until it’s the best songs.” That gives you the opportunity to get really weird and experiment. I did that with Melted; I was trying a bunch of stuff on it that I’d never done before. But this is just like one step further, and I’m really happy with it. I think it’s the best one."
Needless to say we are excited.
We'll be sure to give further updates as news unfolds / tracks are released, but in the meantime, check out this video below of Ty performing the title track for the peoples over at TheTripWire!
