Ducktails is Jersey dude Matthew Mondanile. Like bandmates/buddies Real Estate, Julian Lynch, & Alex Bleeker, Mondanile specializes in that laid back/phased out psych sound that has come to characterize the Jersey scene. While his previous records are more on the ambient side of the psych spectrum, Mondanile's upcoming "Ducktails III Arcade Dynamics" (due Fall 2010) seems to have much more of a pop-song bent. "Hamilton Road" might seem like the kind of tune anyone could record with enough weed/PBR & a 4-track in their basement, but that shouldn't be a reason to diss it. In my mind, this is just a great pop song (with a lead hook that is destined to be etched in your memory) - and its simple approach and sound give it an honesty that reminds me why I listen to independent music.
Fall ain't coming soon enough.
